Mahi in the Native Hawaiian culture means 'strong' which relates to the origin of opal which is found in formations within bedrocks. The creation of opal is so unique that it requires a series of specific geological, climatic and biological elements to coincide to form this beautiful gem. Australia is fortunate to be one of those places with our central desert regions supplying 90% of the worlds opals.
I only ever use natural Australian Opals in my pieces. Opals are seen as emotionally supportive, stabilizing mood swings and help to increase trust in one's feelings.
